Matthew

Love may require sacrifice, advocacy, relationship, it is a whole-life commitment, not just for Sunday mornings or brunch. Love requires much of us.

When we discard the story as it is often presented to us, we instead see clearly that we are all made in the image of God, we are all worthy of love.

It is our calling to recognize the goodness of this welcoming God, and to live into that and to share it endlessly and abundantly with all around us.

We cannot earn God’s love, we need not worry about doing so, and others should not be asked to earn ours. We are simply invited into the love of God.

Jesus comes to give us a way out of our cycles of violence that we could not imagine on our own. Forgive. We must learn to let all our grievances go.

We would be healthier if we could see the other as equally beloved children of God, not as those to be defeated, but as fellow sheep in one flock.

Divine love, taking up our cross, it cannot leave us comfortable. Loving our neighbor extends across the world, into every single thing that we do.

God is bigger than any boundary, so our sole task is to cure our divine deficit disorder, to let God and love be the foundation for everything else.

Jesus breaks the foundation of scarcity. He takes the disciples’ food and shares it, and his miracle of abundance inspires everyone to do the same.

The radical part of our parable this morning is that it is not ours to decide or to reap: it is ours simply to grow, to love, to share with everyone.

We do not know what impact a little seed may have, so we are called to recklessly scatter seeds of love everywhere, all over the place, all the time.

Christians of all nationalities are called into this way of life, loving everyone, even our enemies, even the strangers, let alone our neighbors.
